The St. Joseph’s Cathedral was built in 1936 in the Neo Gothic style that is influenced by Cologne Cathedral in Germany. Earlier there was a small church in this place, but due to increase in Christian population Wodeyar decided to build a new church and started construction in 1933.
The Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV started church construction and it was purely built on the guidance of Bishop Rene Feuga. It is one of the oldest churches in India and one of the tallest among all Asia churches. This church is named after St. Philomena, who was the daughter of monarch of a small state in Greece.
The church will be open for public from 5 AM to 6 PM on all days and there is no entry fee for visit. This church is located in Lashkar Mohalla Ashoka Road and can contact on 0821-256 3148 for more details.
The annual fest held 11th of August on every year is a great day where public gets a chance to enjoy with friends and family. This place is just 3 KM from city bus stand and 1.2 KM from Railway station, so tourists can easily reach using public transports such as bus, auto or cabs.
